Fitting a Boxwelded liner is really rather easy, all you need is the items listed below and a little patience.
Tools and equipment
Pair of sharp scissors
A very sharp knife with retractable blade (to avoid accidents)
A phillips screwdriver for installing bottom drains and returns
A tube of mastic (we use goldseal)
Mastic gun
A roll of "gaffa" tape
Friends (for easy installation)
A never emptying tea/ coffee mug- optional.
Assuming your hole is dug and finished follow these very simple 4 rules!
1) Cut the underlay so that it goes over the top by whatever size the flange is. Lay it down the side wall and into the base by about 2-3". Do exactly the same to the next piece only this time overlay the second piece over the first by 2". Now "gaffa" tape the joint right from the top to the bottom. Continue this process all the way around untill all the walls are covered. Cut round any skimmers and returns that are present allowing 1-2" of clearance.
2) Lay the underlay into the bottom of the pond in the same manner that the walls were done, ensuring that you continue to overlap and tape as needed.
Again, if present, cut round any bottom drains leaving the 1-2" clearance.
3) Remove the liner from the packacking and roll out next to the pond. ENSURE THERE ARE NO SHARP OBJECTS UNDER THE LINER!! Using three friends, each take a corner and drop the liner into place. This procedure can be done with one person however it will take longer. Remove outdoor shoes and get into the pond. Push the bottom edges out to the sides ensuring that the "friends" have hold of the top. Push the corners out and pull out any creases or folds which may have appeared both in the walls or on the base. Once you are happy proceed to the next step
4) If pond is pump fed and there are no returns then your liner can now be filled
4a) If returns and bottom drains are present seal these to the liner (our own preferance is gold seal) and leave to set. Once set the liner can be filled.
5) (OPTIONAL)
Have a cuppa, you have done well
SERVICES
If you find the prospect of fitting your own liner a little daunting then BoxweldUK can pay you a visit. We have many years experience at fitting both small pond liners and koi pond liners right up to lake liners. Larger installations can even be welded on site!! This is subject to extra cost!
We can even build your pond from scratch, in other words from the ground up!
An aweful lot of our clients have decking around the ponds and in here we can loose a lot of the spoil (waste soil) from the hole! saving considerable amounts on waste removal. We can build from blocks or we have found that wooden ponds have become popular recently. See our references page for pictures.
